Schmidt named CCAC Attacker of the Week

CHICAGO --- St. Ambrose University's Zach Schmidt (Kaukauna, Wis.) claimed his first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's volleyball weekly honor, while Saint Xavier University's Jake Olson (Oak Forest, Ill.) and Aaron Kummer (Chicago, Ill.) maintained their stronghold on the weekly accolades for their performances during the seven-day period ending March 3. The league office made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.

Schmidt was named the CCAC Attacker of the Week after authoring an incredible .630 hitting percentage and averaging 3.0 kills per set last week. The junior middle hitter committed only one error in 27 chances with 18 kills over six sets covering two matches.

In a first-place battle with Saint Xavier last Tuesday, Schmidt totaled 12 kills in 20 chances to go along with four blocks in a three-set win. Three days later, he produced six kills in seven chances in a three-set loss to NAIA No. 1-ranked Missouri Baptist University.

St. Ambrose is among others receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll. After splitting their two decisions this week, the first-place Bees are 9-7 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
