SAU moves to 3-1 in CCAC with win over Judson

Six different Bees collected at least three kills as St. Ambrose swept Judson 25-15, 25-22, 25-14 Monday night at Lee Lohman Arena. The win moved St. Ambrose to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

The Bees totaled 38 kills as a team against just 13 hitting errors to finish with a .329 hitting percentage.

Thanks in part to 10 total blocks, four each coming from Zach Schmidt, Jaylen Clark and Adam Campbell, SAU forced Judson into 22 hitting errors and just 17 total kills.

The second set provided the biggest challenge on the night. St. Ambrose led just 21-20 before an Eagle serving error upped the margin to two points. Schmidt and Scott MacGillis then teamed for a block for a 23-20 advantage. Back-to-back Judson points closed the gap to a single point but a kill from MacGillis and a Judson hitting error gave SAU the set.

MacGillis led all players with 10 kills. Schmidt and Levi Vermeulen each had seven, Clark finished with six, Campbell recorded four, and Matt Drab had three in the win.

Campbell registered a match-high 29 assists. MacGillis, Robby Hoffman and Danny Woulfe each picked up six digs.

St. Ambrose will next host Trinity Christian Thursday at 7 p.m.
