Shakerin earns Co-Offensive Player of the Year honors; six Bees on all-KCAC teams

Sophomore Michael Shakerin was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference on Tuesday as they announced the All-Conference awards. Shakerin shares the honor with Trevor Doren of Columbia. Six Bees earned all-conference awards - Shakerin was named to the first team, while Nolan Hayes, Joseph Henderson, Hayden Latham, Hunter Northway, and Justin O'Marrah were second-team selections.

Shakerin, an attacker from Lake Oswego, Ore., led the Fighting Bees in goals this season with 38. He also leads the team in assists with 18. Shakerin ranks in the top 15 players in total shots, shots per game, total goals, goals per game, points per game, and total assists. He tied a career-high in goals on April 11th, scoring five in a win against St. Mary. He was named KCAC Offensive Player of the Week on April 6th after tallying four goals against Ottawa and having four goals and three assists against Benedictine.

Hayes, a sophomore goalie from Grayson, Ga., is the NAIA leader in total saves with 151. Hayes had a career-high 31 saves against Indiana Tech on Feb. 19th. He's made double-digit saves six other times - 16 against William Penn, 15 against Aquinas (Mich.) and Benedictine, 13 against Missouri Valley, and 12 against Taylor (Ind.) and Missouri Valley. Hayes was twice named KCAC Defensive Player of the Week - once on March 9th and again on April 6th.

Henderson, a junior defenseman from Oregon City, Ore., is a repeat selection after being named to the all-KCAC second team in 2019. He was a big part of limiting an offense. Henderson collected 21 ground balls on the season and caused 14 turnovers. He also notched his first assist in a win over Missouri Valley on April 17th.

Latham, a junior long-stick midfielder from Caledonia, Mich., was another defensive force. Latham was the team leader in caused turnovers with 20. He collected 49 ground balls on the year, second on the team behind Northway. He also scored three goals and added five assists giving him a career-high eight points on the season.

Northway, a senior faceoff specialist from Ankeny, Iowa, won 168-251 faceoffs this year. Northway is first in SAU history in career ground balls and was second on the list in faceoffs won heading into the season. He collected a total of 91 ground balls this year and added two goals and one assist. He won a season-high 19 faceoffs in the win against Missouri Valley on April 17th.

O'Marrah, a junior midfielder from New Lenox, Ill., tallied 35 points this season, scoring 29 goals and adding six assists. He scored a game and career-high five goals in the first outing of the season against Taylor (Ind.) on Feb. 18th. O"Marrah ranks in the top 15 in total shots, shots per game, total goals, and total shots on goal.

St. Ambrose earned its highest ranking ever this season, finishing No. 4 in the NAIA. The Bees will play in the KCAC Quarterfinals on Thursday.
