Kasper's 21 saves lead Bees past Cardinals

Adam Kasper made 21 saves to help St. Ambrose earn an 11-7 win over Concordia (Mich.) Saturday afternoon at St. Vincent's. The freshman goalkeeper was consistent throughout, posting 11 saves in the first half and recording 10 more in the second.

Myles Leyden had a hat trick to support Kasper. Austin Adams and Jared Morgan each scored a pair of goals in the win that moved SAU to 4-3 overall.

Goals from Adams and Sam Kerr gave the Bees a 2-0 lead just over five minutes into the contest. But then the offense stalled and Concordia (2-1) took advantage. The Cardinals scored the final two goals of the first period and scored the first two of the second to take a 4-2 lead. A late Adams goal cut the deficit to 4-3 at the half.

SAU struck early in the third quarter with goals from Leyden and Morgan in the first two minutes of the period putting the team back in front. After Concordia tied the score at 5-5, Thomas Parker scored off a Kerr assist to give the Bees a lead they would not relinquish. Leyden's second goal of the afternoon increased the advantage to 7-5 heading into the final frame.

Morgan, Chris Scislowski and Danny Kinnerk opened the fourth quarter with goals to push the lead to 10-5. The Cardinals made things interesting with a pair of goals, the last trimming the margin to 10-7 with two minutes remaining. But just 30 seconds later, Leyden sealed the win with his third goal of the afternoon.

Along with his two goals, Morgan was credited with two assists. Parker also had an assist.

Hunter Northway won 12-of-16 faceoffs and picked up 13 ground balls in the victory.

The Bees will next visit No. 7 Missouri Valley Friday night.
