
Riggs leads Bees at WIU Intercollegiate
Colin Riggs put together three rounds in the 70s to lead St. Ambrose at the WIU Intercollegiate hosted by Western Illinois at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
Riggs fired the team's best round of the two-day event, opening with a 1-over 72 Friday. Later in the day, he carded a 76 before shooting a 79 Saturday. His 227 was good for a share of 18th place in the field filled with NCAA Division I programs.
Dylan McAleer started with an 81 but came back with rounds of 75 and 76 for a 232 and a top-30 finish. Carsen Theis fired a first-round 74 before closing with an 80 and a 78 to match McAller with a 232.
Mason Steinert had rounds of 78-81-81 for a 240 and Jacob Stoetzel shot an 81-80-80 for a 241 for the Bees.
St. Ambrose had a 305 to start the tournament. SAU finished with a 311 and 313 for a 929 to take eighth place. Indian Hills won the nine-team tournament with an 880 (289-290-301).
Griffin Smits led five Bees playing as individuals. He put together rounds of 80-74-77 for a 231. Ben King (78-80-77=235), Tim Marcum (81-82-76=239), Nathan Unes (84-79-84=247) and Brody Miguel (83-83-89=255) also competed for St. Ambrose.
Chicago State's Payton Dunahee claimed individual medalist honors with a 2-over 215 (71-68-76).
The Bees will compete in the Loras Invitational at The Meadows in Asbury, Iowa, April 13-14.
