
McAleer ties for third at Mustang Fall Championship
Dylan McAleer shot a collegiate-best 66 to finish in a tie for third place at the Mustang Fall Championship played at Hunters Ridge in Marion, Iowa, Saturday and Sunday.
McAleer opened with a 77 before firing his 6-under 66, the best round of the tournament. His 1-under 143 was just a shot out of second place. Mount Mercy's Theo Baker won the tournament with a 6-under 138 (68-70).
McAleer was one of three Bees who made a big move up the leaderboard Sunday.
Colin Riggs, who shot an opening-round 80, came back with a 1-under 71 to earn a share of 22nd place with a 151. Jacob Stoetzel followed his 81 with a 74 for a 155 and 31st place.
Those three helped St. Ambrose recover from a first-day 316 to fire a 292. That was good for a 608 total and fourth place in the 12-team event.
Mason Steinert shot consecutive 81s for a 162 and Nathan Unes finished with a 164 (78-86).
Ben King led a second SAU team with a 147. He carded rounds of 73 and 74 to end in a tie for 12th.
Also playing for the second team were Carsen Theis (78-78=156), Vinny Messana (82-82=164), Tim Marcum (87-81=168) and Griffin Smits (82-90=172). That team placed 10th.
Mount Mercy won its own tournament going away. THe Mustangs finished with a 7-under 569.
The Bees will split up for a pair of tournaments next Sunday and Monday. One group will compete in the Duhawk Fall Invitational at The Meadows Golf Club in Asbury, Iowa, while another group will play in the Northwest Iowa National Invitational at Le Mars Country Club in Le Mars, Iowa.
