Spurgetis, Hultman and McAleer honored by the CCAC

all-CCAC men's golf release

Three Bees were honored by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference as the league announced its postseason men's golf awards. Eric Spurgetis was named first team all-CCAC, Owen Hultman was selected to the second team and Dylan McAleer was tabbed as the league's freshman of the year.

Spurgetis had a banner senior season in becoming the first St. Ambrose golfer named to the all-CCAC first team since Sergio Garcia in 2016. Spurgetis won the Clarke Spring Invitational on Apr. 5 with a 1-over 73. That was one of his four top-five efforts this year. He posted a total of seven top-10 finishes. He fired a season-best 2-under 69 to take third in the Wartburg Spring Invitational on Apr. 1.

The Moline, Ill., native led the team with a 76.68 scoring average over 11 tournaments and 19 rounds this year.

Hultman, from Belvidere, Ill., garnered second-team honors after averaging a 77.79 over his 19 rounds. He led the team by hitting 58 percent of his greens in regulation. Hultman had his best result of the year at the CCAC Championships in late April, where he was conference runner-up after firing a 4-over 217 (76-68-73). He tied for sixth at the Clarke Spring Invitational.

McAleer was named the CCAC Freshman of the Year after carding four top-10 finishes, including a pair of top-five showings. He was third at the CCAC Cup in October and fifth at the Clarke Fall Invitational in September.

McAleer, from DeWitt, Iowa, led St. Ambrose by hitting 57 percent of his fairways and averaged a team-low 29.5 putts per round. He had a scoring average of 78.32 over 19 rounds.

All three Bees competed in the NAIA Men's Golf Championships at TPC Deere Run earlier this month.
