
Bees begin year at Hammer Golden Eagle Invite
St. Ambrose placed three on the all-tournament team at the season-opening Hammer Golden Eagle Invite Saturday and Sunday.
Josh Prowse led SAU's JV2 team by placing second overall. He averaged better than a 244 over his five games. He was joined on the all-tournament team by Kendric Siders, who averaged a 230.4 over five games to lead the varsity team.
Marissa Bills earned all-tournament recognition on the women's side. She collected 1045 pins over her five games, good for a 209.0 average and fourth place.
The Bee men finished fourth in qualifying with 8706 total pins. Saint Xavier was the top qualifier with 9027 pins. Calumet St. Joseph (8889) and Wis.-Whitewater (8797) were seeded second and third, respectively. St. Ambrose took down Quincy 2-0 in the bracket quarterfinals before falling to Saint Xavier 2-1 in the best-of-3 semifinal round. SXU ultimately knocked off Purdue to win the team title.
The men had two JV teams compete, with JV1 taking first place in qualifying with 8510 pins. JV2 was second with 8215 pins. After defeating Saint Xavier in the semifinals, JV1 lost to Quincy in the championship round.
Competing for the SAU varsity were Siders, Zach Greim (1073, 5 games), Tyler Close (1040, 5 games), Tommy Burns Jr. (849, 4 games), Kevin Magnuson (596, 3 games), Jay Oliva-Colobong (232, 1 game), Logan Boll (203, 1 game) and Lucas Hersrud (200, 1 game).
Bowling for JV1 were Nicholas Kidd (1131, 5 games), Wyatt Honecker (1065, 5 games), Evan White (1013, 5 games), Jaxon Robinson (829, 4 games), Will Young (601, 3 games), Keaten Bieri (345, 2 games), Anthony Mastroianni (150, 1 game) and Raiden Nakagawa. Competing for JV2 were Prowse, Juny Almeida (770, 4 games), Matthew Edler (577, 3 games), Charlie Wooldridge (565, 3 games), Eli Haack (559, 3 games), Chayce Stouffer (529, 3 games), Brendan DeWerth (394, 2 games) and Myles Breemeersch (374, 2 games).
The St. Ambrose women finished sixth with 7084 total pins. The Bees did not qualify for the four-team bracket, which top-seeded Saint Xavier ultimately won.
The SAU JV team finished fourth with 6121 pins.
Behind Bills, St. Ambrose featured Sammy Upham (953, 5 games), Haven Hospodar (879, 5 games), Madison Holevoet (849, 5 games), Maddie Ksobiech (729, 5 games) and Makenna Verdon. The JV squad included Megan Nyenhuis (831, 5 games), Sam Lundvall (757, 5 games), Brooklyn Schlapkohl (724, 5 games), Lily Murphy (594, 4 games), Hannah Stearns (408, 3 games) and Shay Edwards (392, 3 games).
SAU returns to action this Saturday and Sunday at the Midwest Collegiate Championships in Wauwatosa, Wis.
