SAU moves to 5-1 in CCAC with big win over Wolves

Ben Schols led three players in double figures as St. Ambrose defeated Cardinal Stritch 69-46 Wednesday night in Lee Lohman Arena.

Schols scored 13 of his game-high 15 points in the first half in helping the Bees move to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the CCAC. Eight of his points came in the opening six minutes with his dunk off a Dylan Kaczmarek feed giving SAU a fast 15-7 lead.

A Will Spriggs steal led to a Michael Williams dunk right before the halftime buzzer that gave St. Ambrose a 35-23 lead at the break. Williams scored nine of his 14 points in the opening half.

The Bees outscored the Wolves (0-11, 0-7 CCAC) 14-6 over the first five minutes of the second half to open up a 20-point advantage. Cardinal Stritch was unable to get closer than 16 points the rest of the way.

SAU limited Stritch to 34 percent shooting for the game, including a 31-percent mark in the second half. The Bees also forced 19 turnovers.

John Kerr joined Schols and Williams in double figures, finishing with 11 points. Kerr also grabbed six rebounds in the win.

Kyle Rohr (eight points) and Jake Friel (seven) combined for 15 points off the Bee bench.

Kaczmarek finished with five points and six boards, and Warren Allen netted four points. Alex Wolter and Davea Davis also scored for St. Ambrose.

The Bees will visit Lincoln College Saturday.
