St. Ambrose falls to Robert Morris in second straight loss
St. Ambrose could never completely recover from a sluggish first half in an 81-70 home loss to Robert Morris Saturday afternoon.
The Bees shot just 8-of-27 from the field, less than 30 percent, in falling behind 42-26 at the half. And although they got back into the game in the second half, they couldn't stop a second straight loss that dropped them to 14-10 overall and 10-6 in the CCAC.
After falling behind by 16 after the game's first 20 minutes, it took SAU just five minutes to cut the gap to one.
Dylan Kaczmarek made two 3-pointers and scored eight points and John Kerr added five points as part of an 18-3 run to open the second half that brought the Bees to within 45-44.
After allowing Robert Morris (15-8, 10-7) rebuild a nine-point advantage, St. Ambrose came right back with a seven-point run to get within two at 58-56 with just over nine minutes remaining. The teams traded turnovers before the Eagles knocked down a 3-pointer and they maintained at least a two-possession advantage the rest of the way.
RMU finished 11-of-23 from beyond the arc. The Eagles hit 9-of-17 threes in the opening half.
Kerr (21 points, 10 rebounds) and Tom Kazanecki (12 points, 14 rebounds) each finished with a double-double in defeat. Kaczmarek scored 12 points and Jake Meeske finished with 10. Michael Williams added six points and six rebounds.
SAU will host Indiana South Bend Monday at 4 p.m.
