Kerr's 27 not enough in loss to Mount Marty

In their first game as a nationally-ranked team this season, the Bees stumbled against Mount Marty 93-90 Saturday night.

John Kerr scored a game-high 27 points in the neutral-site game played at Iowa Central College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was 10-of-14 from the field, knocked down a 3-pointer and finished 6-of-7 from the line. He also pulled down 10 rebounds.

Kerr was one of several Bees to have a strong night offensively.

Ben Schols hit 4-of-5 from beyond the arc in shooting 6-of-7 overall in dropping in 18 points and Michael Williams was 6-of-13 from the floor in scoring 15 points. Williams also came up with eight rebounds.

The Bees shot an amazing 17-of-26 in the opening half (65.4 percent) and finished at 34-of-59 (57.6 percent) for the game.

But the difference came down to turnovers. St. Ambrose committed 21 turnovers while Mount Marty (10-2) finished with just seven. Twelve of those SAU turnovers came in the first half, a half that saw the Bees trailing 47-44 at the break. It was a margin the team could not overcome in the second half.

Jake Meeske finished with nine points, and Isaiah Harvey and Tom Kazanecki each scored six in the loss.

The Bees (8-2), who had their six-game winning streak snapped, will return home to host Lincoln College Wednesday.
