Kerr named first team all-CCAC; Allen receives honorable mention

2018-19 all-CCAC Men's Basketball team

John Kerr followed up his 2018 conference freshman of the year campaign by earning first team all-conference honors as the CCAC announced its 2019 postseason men's basketball awards Saturday. He is the first Bee to be named first team all-conference since St. Ambrose joined the CCAC in 2015-16. Fellow sophomore Bee Warren Allen received all-conference honorable mention.

Kerr was one of just five players named to the first team after finishing among the conference leaders in several categories. The 6-7 forward was 14th in scoring at 15.1 points per game and third in rebounding at 8.9 boards per contest. He was also third in offensive rebounding (2.7 rpg), ninth in field goal percentage (,550) and 12th in free throw percentage (.794).

Kerr upped his numbers in conference play, averaging 16.1 points on 57.0 percent shooting and 9.1 rebounds in 20 CCAC contests.

He scored in double figures in 26 of the team's 30 games this season and scored at least 20 points in seven different games this year. Kerr netted a career-high 27 points in a 66-61 win at Cardinal Stritch on Feb. 9. He grabbed double-digit boards in nine games, including a 17-rebound performance in a home victory over Trinity Christian on Feb. 13.

Kerr is the first Bee to be named first team all-conference since the 2014-15 season, when Nick Frazier and Darian White both earned the honor when St. Ambrose competed as part of the Midwest Collegiate Conference (MCC).

Allen received all-CCAC honorable mention after finishing second to Kerr in both scoring (14.6 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 rpg). He shot better than 53 percent from the field, led the team with 27 blocked shots and was second on the team with 33 steals.

The two sophomores helped St. Ambrose finish 17-13 overall and 12-8 in the CCAC.

The CCAC also announced its all-academic team and seven Bees were on the list. Jason Capper, Hunter Fettkether, Tom Kazanecki, Kevin Krahn, Mike Mooney, Alex Portwood and Michael Williams were recognized for their work in the classroom.
