Kerr's big night helps Bees to fourth straight win

John Kerr finished with 26 points and eight rebounds to lead St. Ambrose to a 71-52 win at Roosevelt Monday night.

The sophomore forward connected on 11-of-15 shots from the field, including his only 3-point attempt, and hit all three of his free throws in netting his season high, and finishing just one point shy of matching his career high.

Kerr's eight rebounds also helped the Bees double up the Lakers on the boards 50-25.

SAU got off to a fast start, taking a 7-0 lead on a Jalen Jones jumper, a Dylan Kaczmarek 3-pointer and a Warren Allen dunk three minutes into the game. A Kerr free throw extended the lead to double digits just over six minutes in, and a late Kaczmarek three kept the margin at 10 at 38-28 at the half.

After pushing the lead to 15 points early in the second half, St. Ambrose watched Roosevelt (15-11, 9-7 CCAC) claw to within 52-46 midway through the half. Kerr answered with a layup and two minutes later knocked down a jumper to get the lead back to 10. Jones then scored inside for a 58-46 lead with 6:28 to play.

The Bees pulled away from there. Kaczmarek hit 7-of-8 free throws and Ben Schols hit a pair from the line to seal SAU's fourth straight win.

Kaczmarek and Jones joined Kerr in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Allen finished with seven points and eight boards. Jake Meeske led the team with nine rebounds and eight assists.

Defensively, St. Ambrose limited Roosevelt to 20-of-62 shooting, including a 5-of-31 mark from beyond the arc.

SAU, now 15-9 overall and 10-6 in the conference, will return home to host Governors State Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
