Bees take down No. 21 Olivet Nazarene 85-70

St. Ambrose used an all-around effort to defeat No. 21 Olivet Nazarene 85-70 Saturday afternoon at Lee Lohman Arena.

The Bees shot an identical 16-of-32 from the floor in each half in shooting 50 percent overall for the game. John Kerr and Jalen Jones supplied the 1-2 scoring punch. The duo combined to shoot 17-of-24 from the floor in totaling 45 of SAU's 85 points to help the Bees sweep the season series from the Tigers.

Kerr kept St. Ambrose close early as Olivet Nazarene led by as many as nine points in the first half. Jones poured in 11 points over a two-minute stretch late in the half that gave the Bees the lead for good. Down 31-25, SAU got a 3-pointer from Jake Meeske before Jones hit four straight shots, the last three coming from beyond the arc, to take a 39-31 lead.

The margin was 42-36 at the half.

Olivet Nazarene (17-7, 10-4 CCAC) closed to within three points early in the second half, but behind Kerr and Jones, St. Ambrose was able to build a double-digit advantage on a Jones jumper five minutes into the half. Seconds later, Kerr scored for a 56-45 lead and the margin remained in double figures the rest of the way.

Kerr finished 10-of-13 from the floor in netting 23 points. He also grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and led all players with four assists.
