Kerr tabbed as CCAC Men's Basketball Freshman of the Year

2017-18 all-CCAC Men's Basketball Team

John Kerr was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Freshman of the Year as the conference announced its postseason awards today.

Kerr also received honorable mention all-conference after a tremendous freshman campaign.

The 6-7 forward/center from Lake Villa, Ill., averaged 12.3 points and 7.5 rebounds, both the top marks among all freshmen in the conference.

He is currently fifth overall in the conference in rebounding and placed ninth in the CCAC in field goal percentage (.560) and 12th in free throw percentage (.769). His 2.6 offensive rebounds per contest rank fifth in the league and 45th nationally.

Kerr scored in double figures in 22 of the team's 30 games, and reached at least 20 points twice, including a season-best 27-point performance on 10-of-13 shooting in a December win over Trinity Christian.

He grabbed double-digit rebounds in eight games, including three games of 14 boards, and posted eight double-doubles.

Kerr helped St. Ambrose sweep the conference's basketball freshman of the year awards as SAU's Madi Epperson won the award on the women's side Saturday night.

In addition, five Bees were named to the CCAC's all-academic team. Blake Buls, Jason Capper, Garrett Faris, Hunter Fettkether and Kevin Krahn were recognized for their work in the classroom.
