Jones scores 33 in loss at No. 13 Trinity International

Surrendering a late 15-2 run spoiled a fantastic afternoon from Jalen Jones as the Bees saw their three-game winning streak snapped with an 90-80 loss at No. 13 Trinity International Saturday.

Playing just his second game, Jones knocked down 15 of 21 shots, including 10 of 11 in the second half, and helped St. Ambrose go toe-to-toe with one of the nation's best.

His jumper with just over five minutes remaining pulled SAU to within 70-67. But then things fell apart.

Trinity International (13-5, 6-2 CCAC) put together its decisive run to open up a 85-69 lead with under two minutes left. The Trojans shot 5-of-8 from the floor and hit three 3-pointers while the Bees went just 1-of-6 during the spurt.

Despite shooting nearly 49 percent from the floor overall, St. Ambrose hurt itself by connecting on just 2-of-24 3-point tries. The Bees were 1-of-12 from behind the arc each half.

SAU (8-8, 3-5 CCAC) also connected on just 6-of-16 free throws while TIU hit 26-of-33 from the line.

Jones' 33-point, nine-rebound performance overshadowed Warren Allen's 21-point effort off the bench. The freshman was 9-of-12 from the floor in scoring a career high.

Jones and Allen were the only two Bees to score in double figures. Lee Hardrick finished with eight points, Blake Buls netted six points and Tyler Hilby came up with four points.

St. Ambrose will next host Robert Morris Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
