The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Friday that St. Ambrose University's Matthew Coovert was named a 2018 Daktronics NAIA Football Scholar-Athlete.

In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Coovert, a junior wide receiver from Sycamore, Ill., caught nine passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns this season for the Bees. He was one of 392 NAIA football players named to the list.
