St. Ambrose shut out by No. 3 Marian
St. Ambrose could never get anything going offensively in a 52-0 loss to perennial power and No. 3-ranked Marian on a wet and rainy Saturday afternoon at Brady Street Stadium.
The No. 25-ranked Bees finished with just 195 yards of total offense, 118 of those yards coming on the ground, in falling to 4-2 overall.
SAU's best chance came early.
After the teams traded points to open the game, Jaxson Nelson forced a fumble on the Knights' second possession. Kobe Easley scooped up the fumble to give the Bees the ball at the Marian 46-yard line.
On a third-and-21 play, Jake Romani found Tom Macari for a 29-yard gain down to the MU 22-yard line. The drive stalled there and Tom Gillen's 45-yard field goal attempt was blocked and returned 21 yards to set up Marian on the SAU 39-yard line.
Although a Bernard Buhake sack, which upped his team-high total to 6.5 this year, forced a third-and-7, Marian completed a 36-yard touchdown pass on the next play to take a 7-0 lead.
It was the first of seven straight scoring drives for the Knights, who rolled up 547 yards of total offense to remain unbeaten.
Romani completed 6-of-14 passes for 55 yards before giving way to Dino Borrelli, who went 3-for-8 for 22 yards. J.D. Villafuerte caught three passes for 26 yards while Carter Himmelman hauled in a pair of catches.
Garret Tiarks led the ground attack with 55 yards on nine carries. Isaiah Hawkins rushed for 51 yards on nine attempts.
Nelson had a team-best nine tackles. Taylor O'Donnell and Jake Schramm were each in on seven stops.
After a week off, the Bees will next host Saint Xavier on Oct. 20. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at Brady Street Stadium.
