Big innings costly in loss at Grand View

A five-run third inning and an eight-run sixth proved to be the difference as St. Ambrose fell in a non-conference game at Grand View 15-2 Wednesday afternoon.

A Kevin Niedzwiedz single brought in Brandon Roth to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the third before the Vikings broke things open in the bottom half of the frame.

Grand View (16-3) scored a single run in the fifth before taking complete control in the sixth.

A Noah Chase single plated Jeremy Conforti with the other Bee run in the eighth.

Niedzwiedz and Roth each had two of SAU's eight hits. Chase, Conforti, Brandon Matias and Caden Thode had the others.

Chase Martin was tagged with the loss after entering in relief of starter David Biedron, who allowed one run over the first two innings. Michael Betancourt, Caden Schwenker, Ian McGhiey and Joe Evans combined to toss the final 5 1/3 innings.

St. Ambrose (11-14) will return to conference action with a four-game series at Viterbo Thursday and Friday.
