Bees stomp Lynx to sweep season series

The Fighting Bees handled some unfinished business in Lincoln, Ill. Tuesday afternoon, routing the Lincoln Lynx in a postponed doubleheader from late March.

The first game of the set was a continuation of a game that had begun play on March 22 but was postponed due to inclement weather. The Lynx (1-30, 1-18 CCAC) held a 3-1 lead after three innings before the rain really started to come down.

The Lynx added another in the top of the fifth before the Bees came storming back. Shawn Rigsby doubled in Adrian Zietara to get the Bees back in action. Cooper Huckabone got one to the outfield to plate Rigsby and then scored on a Kyel Alexander RBI single to tie the game at 4-4.

Lincoln retook the lead on an error in the sixth inning, but St. Ambrose put up a five-spot in the bottom half. Rigsby and Alexander both roped 2 RBI doubles in the sixth while Mike Snow capped it off with an RBI single.

The Bees would score three more over the last two innings to close out the scoring. Nick Hernandez pitched the entirity of the makeup, scattering four hits and striking out six to pick up the win.

St. Ambrose went on to sweep the doubleheader in a game 2 that ended in a similar fashion.

The Bees got all the runs they would need in the first inning, hitting through their entire lineup to put up an eye-opening eight runs before three outs were recorded.

The Fighting Bees used their speed on the basepaths to score runs and cause Lynx mistakes. Three double steals were pulled off in the first inning. Huckabone, Alexander, and Rigsby all knocked in a run in the first.

A four-spot in the following inning pushed the lead to double-digits. Conor O'Hara tossed a one-hit gem on the hill, going 6 1/3 as the starter and striking out seven. Jacob Sciame came in to record the final two outs for the Bees to tack down the 12-0 shutout win.

The doubleheader sweep improves St. Ambrose to 27-8 overall and an impressive 18-4 in the CCAC. The Bees will continue their conference campaign with a home game against Calumet on Thursday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
