Bees stay hot; roll over Crimson Wave

The Fighting Bees swept a pair of games over Calumet St. Joseph Sunday to remain unbeaten in the month of April.

St. Ambrose rattled off 25 total hits over two games en route to their fifth-straight victory.

Three of those hits came in the opening inning of game 1. Adrian Zietara and Shawn Rigsby roped out two singles to kick things off and Cooper Huckabone brought them home with a triple to deep right field.

After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, the Bees tacked on five more runs in the top of the fourth to open up an 8-0 lead. Zietara Bryce VincentBrenden ButlerChris McFarland and Kyel Alexander all batted in a run during the five-spot.

Calumet (8-22, 3-10 CCAC) would get three runs back in the bottom half of the fourth but failed to get any more runs across for the remainder of the game. Francis Quinn went eight innings as the starter, striking out 10 along the way, before Hayden Kingsbury came in for the final inning to nail down the 11-3 win.

The Crimson Wave notched the first run in the second game of the doubleheader, but the Bees would get that run right back in the second off the bat of Butler who sent a big fly over the wall in right to tie it up.

Butler wasn't done there. In the top of the sixth with the Bees sporting an 8-4 lead, Butler launched his second home run of the day, but this one was a grand slam to extend the lead.

The Bees tallied two five-run innings in game 2 to win by double-digits at 14-4. Nick Vollmert tossed a complete game, going seven innings and striking out six.

Zietara went 9-for-10 at the plate over the two-game set. Butler knocked in seven RBIs in the sweep.

Following the sweep, the Bees improve to 20-6 overall and 11-3 in the CCAC. They get right back to work Monday with a two-game set against Judson.
