Bees get three in the 12th to complete sweep of Lakers

Gabe Panza had a two-run single to break a 6-6 tie as part of a three-run 12th inning to lead St. Ambrose to a 9-6 win in the second game of a Sunday doubleheader at Roosevelt. The Bees won the first game 8-0.

Roosevelt (4-19, 4-8 CCAC) scored once in the bottom of the eighth and twice in the ninth to force extra innings. Finally in the 12th, the Bees were able to complete the sweep.

Michael Ryan started the inning with a bunt single before taking second on Mike Coughlin's sacrifice. Cole Aughenbaugh singled to move Ryan to third before Andrew Rodriguez was intentionally walked to load the bases. That's when Panza came through with his tiebreaking two-run single to center. And the Bees weren't done. Zach Stroman singled to reload the bases before Tyler Franc drew a walk to score pinch runner Braeden Reed with an insurance run.

Ryan Andrews escaped a two-on, two-out jam in the bottom of the 12th to earn the win with three scoreless innings in relief. He was able to hold Roosevelt scoreless despite the Lakers putting two runners on base in each of the final three frames.

Andrews was the third Bee pitcher in the game. Fabian Garcia allowed just three runs over six innings before he gave way to Noah Kesselmayer, who worked three innings.

Aughenbaugh finished 4-for-6 with three runs scored in the night cap. Ryan collected three hits and scored two runs. Rodriguez and Stroman each had two of SAU's 14 hits.

Tyler Bromer tossed a seven-hit shutout in the opener. The junior right-hander has not allowed a run over his two conference starts (14 innings).

Ryan and Peyton Minder each had three hits and combined for five RBIs to back Bromer.

SAU (6-14, 4-4 CCAC) got the only run it would need in the top of the first as Rodriguez's ground out scored Ryan, who drew a walk to lead off the game. An inning later, Ryan's single scored Josh Hlubek to give the Bees a 2-0 lead.

Minder ripped a two-run triple in the fourth and Ryan added a run-scoring triple of his own in the sixth. The Bees tacked on two more runs in the sixth thanks to a Roosevelt error. Ryan collected his third hit and third RBI of the game with a single that scored Mike Snow in the seventh.

Aughenbaugh finished with a pair of hits and an RBI in the Game 1 victory.

The Bees will next visit Saint Xavier for a single nine-inning game Tuesday.
