St. Ambrose drops doubleheader at Judson

St. Ambrose dropped below .500 in conference play after losing a doubleheader at Judson by scores of 3-1 and 11-0.

The Bees are now 12-23 overall and 9-10 in the CCAC.

SAU had its chances in the opener, out-hitting the Eagles 7-4, but stranded nine runners. The Bees left at least one runner on in six of the seven innings, including leaving the bases loaded in the second and two on in the third.

Conference-leading Judson (25-12, 17-3) took the lead in the first inning on a two-run home run following a two-out walk. The Eagles tacked on another run in the fifth.

St. Ambrose got its run in the sixth. Cole Aughenbaugh started things with a single, advanced to second on a throwing error by the pitcher and moved to third on Kevin Aderman's ground out. Peyton Minder singled to center to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Aughenbaugh and Minder each had two hits.

Nate Kurtz took the loss after allowing just four hits and two earned runs over seven innings.

SAU managed just four hits in the second game, an 11-0 loss in seven innings. David Gonzalez collected two of those hits.

The Eagles again struck for two first-inning runs before breaking things open with a seven-run fifth inning.

Dantley Johnson was charged with the loss despite striking out seven over 4 2/3 innings. Justin Shaffer threw the final 1 1/3 innings.

SAU will next visit Indiana South Bend Wednesday for a single game to wrap up their three-game season series. The teams split a doubleheader in Florida as part of the Bees' Spring Break trip in mid March.
