Goodale powers Bees to series-opening win at Judson

Tommy Goodale hit two home runs, including a game-winning two-run shot in the top of the 10th inning, to lead St. Ambrose to a 6-4 win over Judson in the first game of a three-game series in Elgin, Ill.

Goodale went 3-for-5, giving him eight hits in his last 12 at bats over the last three games. Seven of his eight hits have gone for extra bases.

After Matt Baldwin drew a two-out walk in the 10th, Goodale launched his third homer in as many games to break a 4-4 tie.

Tyler Bromer, who entered the game in the ninth, pitched around a walk and a single in the bottom of the 10th to get the win.

Goodale helped the Bees to an early lead, homering to lead off the third inning. It started a three-run frame for St. Ambrose. Josh Hlubek followed with a base hit and pinch runner Taelor Lopez took second on Kevin Zanger's sacrifice bunt. Zach Hart had an RBI single and moved to second on a Judson throwing error. Tanner Ennis then delivered a run-scoring single to give SAU a 3-0 lead.

Mike Miller, who had a two-hit game, added a solo shot in the seventh for a 4-1 lead.

The Eagles (26-13, 12-3 CCAC) tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to eventually force the game into extra innings, leading to Goodale's 10th-inning heroics.

Jake Sheley allowed six hits and four runs, two earned, over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out six. Cooper Sant Amour struck out a pair over 1 1/3 innings before giving way to Bromer, who earned his second win of the season.

St. Ambrose (13-21) will take its 9-5 CCAC record into Saturday's doubleheader beginning noon.
