Caleb Colgan (eSports) and Jenna Smithmeyer (women's tennis) are honored as the September Fighting Bees Male and Female Athlete of the Month, selected by the Sports Information Department.

The St. Ambrose Men's Tennis team were also selected based on their dominant September performance.

Colgan is a member of the eSports team at St. Ambrose, more specifically a League of Legends player for the program. The Bartonville, Ill. native was named League of Legends Player of the Week through the Heart of America Athletic Conference. He helped his team beat Grand View and Central Methodist in conference matches. "There has been a lot of adversity to overcome, but he has faced it well," said Director of eSports, Keith Hamaker. Hamaker also praised Colgan for his performance, "Last week, the work paid off as the team got their first win against Central Methodist University with Caleb being a centerpiece in the victory."

Smithmeyer was named the September Female Athlete of the Month after her outstanding monthly stretch for the women's tennis team. She has posted six singles wins against Loras, Dubuque, Wis.-Stevens Point, Wis. Lutheran, Monmouth, and Cornell. The Ottawa, Ill. native also collected three wins in doubles which helped move her team to three team wins in the month of September. In the spring, the Bees will be back in action to open up conference play.

The men's tennis team had a stellar month of fall tennis as they pumped out a 6-1 record to post shutouts twice this month, coming against Loras and Monmouth to grab the September Team of the Month. They accumulated a four match win streak just before the close of the season. At home, SAU was dominant with a 5-1 record. St. Ambrose will resume matches in the spring to start CCAC conference play. 

Each month, the St. Ambrose Sports Information Department will select a Male and Female Athlete of the Month based on their exceptional accomplishments. A Team of the Month will be chosen as well by the Sports Information staff.
