Bees drop season opener to No. 11 Marian University

St. Ambrose women's soccer opened their 2025 campaign at home with a tough, ranked Marian Knights team. The Bees gave up one goal in a 1-0 defeat Saturday afternoon against the 11th-ranked Knights.

The game was off to a slow start in the first half. In the 24th minute, Marian scored the only goal of the match. The Bees had one shot by Jenna Horst, but were unable to capitalize before the end of the half.

Neither team was able to score in the second half. Horst again put up two shots against the Knights goalie, but was unsuccessful in sneaking them in the goal. Jonna Tucker was solid between the pipes, holding Marian to their one goal until the final buzzer went off.

Tucker tallied five saves on the Knights 18 shot attempts.

"We knew that we were up against a top opponent today, we have been well tested through our preseason, and we know that our non-conference schedule is going to be extremely tough," said head coach Jon Mannall. "Today, we showed great courage and determination to battle a top team to a very tight game. I don't think we produced our best with the ball, and there are areas of our game that we know we need to improve upon, but overall, it was a solid result against a very accomplished and well-coached opponent."

Next up, the Bees will host Benedictine University, Saturday, Aug. 30th at 3 p.m. at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport, Iowa.
