St. Ambrose finished October undefeated

St. Ambrose finished October undefeated

All it took was a goal in each half, off the foot of Kaitlyn Brunson, to remain undefeated in the month of October for SAU. The Bees defeated Viterbo two to nil last night in the second match of the double header at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex. St. Ambrose only connected on two of their 16 shots to score the two deciding factors in the match.

The Bees controlled much of the match, especially early on. SAU out shot the V-Hawks nine to two in the first half. In that time period, Mia Hefner headed a lofted ball towards the net but it would find the bottom of the cross bar and bounce away from the net.

Mia Vetter found herself on the end of a few crosses whipped in by Brunson, but those would sneak just wide as they hit the side netting of the goal.

Brunson played hero for the Bees at the 40th minute mark. Brunson was taken down just outside the box by a V-Hawk's defender and a foul was awarded to SAU. The prior named NAIA Third-Team All-American stood over the free kick and delivered for the Bees with a shot that looked to be out of a movie. The goal soared into the top shelf to break the tie for SAU and Viterbo.

St. Ambrose entered the halftime break with the 1-0 lead and another 45 minutes to play.

The start of the second half played out evenly for the first 20 minutes. Then, Brunson took it upon herself to dribble a few defenders and she finally sent a laser towards net. The ball lifted right over the arms of the outstretched V-Hawks keeper to double the Bees lead.

Nor Viterbo or St. Ambrose ever threatened again in the match as St. Ambrose remained victorious. This win moves SAU to 10-5-2 this season and 8-2 in conference matches. This win kept St. Ambrose undefeated in October and put the Bees on a seven-game win-streak.

The Bees did not allow Viterbo a chance for a corner kick as SAU recorded four themselves.

With Brunson being the only goal scorer, she registered six shots in the match.

Jenna Horst, Malu Garuba Coelho, and Abigail Goff each ended the night with a shot on net.

Looking ahead for St. Ambrose, they will host Governors State at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex this Sat. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. in part of the conference doubleheader matchup.
