St. Ambrose celebrates ten seniors on Homecoming Weekend

St. Ambrose celebrated ten seniors on Senior Night, Homecoming Weekend, and a 5-0 decision all in one match this evening at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex. The Trinity Christian Trolls were in town, but the Bees rolled to a victory as four different Bees netted scores for SAU. This win propels the Bees to 5-2-0 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer play.

Genevieve BowyerKaitlyn BrunsonMalu Garuba CoelhoTaylor DeSplinterAbigail GoffAllie GovertMaggie KonczakGrace KucharNuria Montouto, Kendall Wendt were the ten seniors that were honored at halftime. Four of the five goals were scored by a senior class member.

Trinity Christian earned the first corner kick and shots on target, all within the first four minutes of the match. The Trolls powered forward for more back-to-back shots and corner kicks until the Bees moved up the field to their own offensive third.

On only SAU's second shot of the match, Wendt took a pass from Brunson to cause chaos for the Trolls. This goal in the 16th minute broke the scoring silence and opened the flood gates for St. Ambrose.

In a matter of time, last week's CCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, Brunson, netted her seventh goal of the season. Jenna Horst was credited with the assist on the goal that doubled the lead for SAU.

After these goals, the Bees would find their offensive rhythm, not allowing the Trolls any offensive chances. Grace Kuchar and the Bees' defense would take care of business to keep the Trolls scoreless as time expired in the first half.

During the halftime break, St. Ambrose would fine tune some changes to go on and score three more goals in the last 45 minutes of play.

It was Horst this time with a solo effort to extend the lead for St. Ambrose. Sitting comfortably at 3-0, SAU did not stand down. This shows as Horst was denied a second goal because of the cross bar.

St. Ambrose cooled off a bit as Trinity Christian regained their footing but not for long. St. Ambrose was back on the board after Mia Hefner dumped a ball into Brunson who netted her second goal of the match and her eighth of the season to move St. Ambrose's lead to 4-0.

The Bees denied all chances brought forward by the Trolls to keep the shutout opportunity alive.

Just before the final horn, Goff netted the last goal for SAU in the 87th minute. This extended the lead for the Bees to 5-0 to secure another conference victory.

Wendt, Horst, and Goff scored a goal each as Brunson doubled that with two scores.

Hefner, Horst, and Brunson each collected an assist.

Hefner, Brunson, and Charlise Martel registerted two shots on target.

Kuchar and the defense earned the shutout on the evening while Kuchar grabbed eight saves.

Next, SAU will travel to St. Francis for another conference match on Wed. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CST at Joliet Memorial Stadum.
