Bees control Saints in shutout

St. Ambrose jumped all over the Saints of Holy Cross in a 4-0 victory in Notre Dame, Ind. earlier this afternoon. It did take a while for SAU to get warmed up as all four goals came in the final period of play with three different St. Ambrose uniform's putting their names in the scoring plays.

Early on in the match, the Bees were ready as their offensive firepower started in only the third minute of play. A shot from Taylor DeSplinter would force the Saint's goal keeper to make a save on the ball. These shots eventually turned in to corner kicks as SAU gathered their first corner kick of the match no more than 20 seconds later.

Holy Cross charged down the field to their own attacking third as they created a shot on goal for themselves, but Grace Kuchar was there to earn her first save of the afternoon.

The Bees peppered the back line of the Saints but could not catch a break. SAU pinned HCC in their own defensive half as the Bees took over the match. The half time break could not come early enough for the Saints as they fended off a huge offensive pressure from St. Ambrose.

Both teams headed into the break scoreless but that would shortly change.

It would take the Bees no more than five minutes into the final period to score the first goal of the match for both sides. Mia Vetter would find the back of the net after McKenna Shilevinatz would serve a ball into the box. Once SAU was comfortable with the 1-0 lead, the scoring gates would open.

Less than two minutes later, DeSplinter possessed a ball from Kaitlyn Brunson and slipped one past the Saints to double the Bees' lead.

This would open up the match as Jenna Horst found Brunson for the third goal.

St. Ambrose cooled off a bit offensively but locked in defensively as they continued to shut down Holy Cross for the remainder of the match.

Just before the final whistle, Brunson converted another penalty kick for SAU as a Bee uniform was fouled inside the box. This score extended the lead to 4-0 as the Bees did not look back. That score stood as SAU moved to 6-5-2 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.

St. Ambrose dominated the shots total as they held the advantage 19-2 with 15 of those shots being on target. The Bees also accumulated 12 corner kicks in the match.

DeSplinter, Horst, and Brunson each scored in the final period of play for the Bees.

Govert and Brunson were tallied for one assist each in the match.

Kuchar stood tall in all 90 minutes of action as she gathered the shutout.

St. Ambrose will have one week to ready-up for a conference match with Trinity Christian. The Bees will host the Trolls on Homecoming Weekend. Kickoff is scheduled for Oct. 19th at 5 p.m. as the last game of the day for Fighting Bee Athletics.
