St. Ambrose celebrates eleven seniors in final match
The Bees recognized Parker Beck, Kai Domagala, Sam Flello, Aden Grudzinski, Ethan Holke, Keaton Johnson, Harry North, David Sanchez-Teba, Carlos Simoni, German Worm, and Diego Zamudio this afternoon in the final regular season match for St. Ambrose. SAU suffered a 3-0 loss to (RV) Governors State at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex. This loss ends any post season chance for the Bees as they finish with a 2-10-3 season record.
In the opening period, St. Ambrose posed as the better team as Governors State went scoreless in the first half. The Bees had the first real scoring chance in the match because a Bee uniform was taken down just outside the box for a free kick opportunity within striking distance. It was Jörn Reck standing over the ball in the 5th minute of play. Reck struck a curling free kick, but it just bounced just off the cross bar to remain scoreless.
Then, Governors State started to fire up thier attack. They peppered St. Ambrose's back line and goal keeper Kai Domagala, but Domagala put on a clinic throughout the match.
Both teams played a physical yet competitive match but things stayed even throughout the first 45 minutes.
Just after the half time break, the game would break open for the Jaguars in the 52nd minute. GSU scored off a similar free kick that the Bees opened the match with. This time, Domagala would get a hand on the save but the ball would spin and trickle just over the line for the goal.
St. Ambrose did not back down and continued to throw numbers forward, looking for a tying score. The Bees earned themselves corner kicks, but the Jaguars never went away.
With Governors State lingering, they netted themselves another score to double their lead with a mere 15 minutes left in the match.
Even with all the numbers forward, SAU did not register anymore shots in the last minutes of the game, but GSU did. In the last minute of the match, the Jaguars extended their lead to 3-0 to take the victory.
The Bees were out shot 21-4, but still managed quite a bit of the game's possession. SAU recorded three corner kicks.
Worm and Lucas Pizani each registered a shot on goal.
Domagala was a key player for St. Ambrose as he ended the match with ten saves.
This loss concludes the 2024-25 season for St. Ambrose.
