Bees finish in top half at Central Fall Classic

Behind Ben King's 11th-place finish, St. Ambrose took seventh in the 16-team Central Fall Classic, played Monday and Tuesday at Bos Landen Golf Resort in Pella, Iowa.

King opened with a 76 before finishing with a 79 for his 155 to earn a share of 11th place. 

Two Bees tied for 22nd. Carsen Theis shot rounds of 79 and 78 for his 157 while Jacob Stoetzel matched King for the team's best round of the event with a final-day 76 that followed an 81 for his 157.

Vinny Messana carded a 163 after shooting an 80 and an 83, and Griffin Smits fired a 169 (85-84).

St. Ambrose had back-to-back rounds of 316 for a 632 total. 

Dubuque won the tournament with a 599 (299-300). UD's John Dobbe won medalist honors with an even-par 144 (75-69).

SAU will close its fall season at the Whistling Straits Classic in Kohler, Wis., Oct. 19-21.
