Benes, Smith named CCAC Runners of the Week
CHICAGO --- St. Ambrose University's Adeline Smith (Morton, Ill.) and Luke Benes (Chicago, Ill.) have been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's and Men's Cross Country Runners of the Week, respectively, for the seven-day period ending Sept. 11. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday morning.
Smith covered the 5K course at the Fighting Bee Invitational in just under 21 minutes, registering a time of 20:58. That placed the freshman sixth in a field of 53 runners. Smith's effort helped SAU finish second among six teams at the meet.
Benes placed fourth overall among 56 runners at SAU's own Fighting Bee Invitational on Saturday. The sophomore ran the 8K course in 27:32. As a team, St. Ambrose finished second out of seven teams.
