SAU takes second at Fighting Bee Invitational

The St. Ambrose men and women each took second at their Fighting Bee Invitational at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf Saturday.

For the women, Adeline Smith and Rileigh Fortune led the way. Smith finished sixth, completing the 5K race in 20:58, just three seconds behind the fifth-place finisher and seven seconds out of fourth. Fortune was right behind her teammate, coming in seventh in 21:19.

Allison Hein and Jayne Eilderts finished within two seconds of each other. Hein was 28th overall in 24:09 and Eilderts had a time of 24:11 to take 29th.

Megan Jansett's time of 26:16 was good for 41st overall. Loryn Heil (29:53) also competed for St. Ambrose.

Mount Mercy, which had the top four finishers, won the six-team women's event.

On the men's side, Luke Benes led the Bees with a fourth-place effort. His time in the 8K was 27:32. Will Dowda earned a top-10 finish, taking 10th in 28:11, and edging teammate Kale Cartee, whose time of 28:15 was good for 11th.

Ian Eller was 14th in 28:37 and Dayton Haugher was 16th in 28:44 to complete the scoring for St. Ambrose.

Chris Miserendino (18th, 28:49) and Noah Maske (25th, 29:55) also ran for the Bees.

Mount Mercy narrowly edged St. Ambrose for first place.

SAU will next compete in the Grand View Viking Invitational on Sept. 24.
