St. Ambrose sweeps conference player of the week honors

CHICAGO --- Mackenzie GraftonMeredith Siebers and Hannah Sondag made it a clean sweep for St. Ambrose University when the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its first round of women's volleyball player of the week recipients for 2023 on Tuesday.

Grafton collected CCAC Attacker of the Week distinction after averaging 3.69 kills per set to go along with a 3.00 digs-per-set average.  The senior outside hitter produced three double-doubles among her four matches played during the seven-day period ending Aug. 27.

Grafton totaled 17 kills and ten digs in a five-set win over Graceland University (Iowa) on Thursday before providing 21 kills and 12 digs versus Park University (Mo.) and 19 kills and 14 digs in a four-set win opposite Morningside University (Iowa) on Saturday.

Siebers one-upped Grafton to earn CCAC Defender of the Week accord.  She had 11-plus kills and 10-plus digs in all four of the team's matches, while also averaging 0.94 blocks per set.

The senior outside hitter opened with 13 kills and 17 digs against Graceland on Thursday, followed by 11 kills and 10 digs versus McPherson College (Kan.) on Friday.  On Saturday, she totaled 14 kills, 16 digs and five blocks opposite Park and 14 kills, 10 digs and seven blocks against Morningside.

Sondag ran the offense to the tune of 9.06 assists per set to gain CCAC Setter of the Week accord.  She totaled nearly 40 or more assists in three of the team's four contests, while averaging 2.5 digs per set.

Sondag posted 39-assist matches against both Graceland and Morningside.  The senior's best match came against Park, where she delivered 47 assists.   

St. Ambrose went 2-2 on the week to begin the season.
