Bees take down Morningside on final day of Park Tourney

Mackenzie Grafton had 19 kills and Meredith Siebers added 14 as St. Ambrose closed the Park Invitational with a 25-18, 28-26, 15-25, 25-19 win over Morningside in Parkville, Mo., Saturday afternoon.

Grafton had just four hitting errors in 47 chances to finish with a .319 hitting percentage. She also came up with 14 digs. Siebers also posted a double-double with 10 digs.

Meredith Umland came up with seven kills, Alex Horne and Hannah Sondag each had three, and Adriana Diaz was credited with two in the win. Sondag recorded 39 assists and 12 digs. Kelsey Koberg matched Grafton with 14 digs. Lexi Huntley picked up 13. Grafton (two) and Kaleigh Bergschneider had aces.

The Bees began play in the two-day event with a 25-21, 25-11, 25-23 loss to McPherson Friday afternoon.

Siebers was the only Bee to reach double figures in kills, putting down 11. Umland had five, Horne finished with four and Grafton and Devyn Church each registered a pair.

Sondag led the team with 20 asssists. She also had 10 digs. Grafton (12) and Siebers (10) also had double-digit digs. Church, Sondag and Ella Gatz each had an ace.

SAU also fell to host and No. 6-ranked Park 25-18, 20-25, 25-16, 25-23 Saturday.

Grafton had another big match, finishing with 21 kills and 12 digs. Siebers had a 14-kill, 16-dig double-double. Umland also put down 10 kills. Horne finished with five kills and Diaz had three.

Sondag handed out 47 assists. Koberg shared team-high honors with 16 digs and led the Bees with two aces. Sondag, Diaz and Skyler Kuntzman each collected six digs.

St. Ambrose (2-2) will play four matches at the William Penn Tournament next Friday and Saturday.
