Bees take down Wolves for 20th win of the year

St. Ambrose kicked off a busy close to the regular season by knocking off Cardinal Stritch 25-18, 23-25, 25-16, 25-14 Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee, Wis.

The Bees, currently in second-place in a tightly-bunched CCAC, got the win in the first of four matches over the next six days.

Other than the second set, which featured eight of the team's 17 hitting errors, the Bees controlled the action against the Wolves. St. Ambrose hit at a .309 clip, totaling 55 kills against those 17 errors. 

Meredith Siebers led SAU with 15 kills. She had just two errors to finish with a .542 hitting percentage. Mackenzie Grafton put down 11 kills. Jill Kavalauskas had nine, Payton Wendt eight and Meredith Umland seven. Alexandria Horne recorded four kills in the win.

Hannah Sondag (25) and Macy Watkins (16) combined for 41 of the Bees' 49 assists. Along with leading St. Ambrose with 15 digs, Maicee Pierce was credited with four assists. Lexi Huntley also had three assists.

Kavalauskas, Huntley and Sondag each had multiple aces. Umland and Horne each also finished with six blocks.

St. Ambrose, now 20-7 overall and 11-2 in the CCAC, will visit Calumet Monday before closing the regular season with a pair of home matches. The Bees will host conference-leading Saint Xavier Tuesday and Olivet Nazarene Thursday.
