SAU gets contributions across the board in 3-0 win over GSU

St. Ambrose improved to 15-5 overall and 7-2 in the CCAC with a 25-18, 25-13, 25-22 win over Governors State Tuesday night inside Lee Lohman Arena.

The Bees overwhelmed the Jaguars, finishing with 42 kills and a .278 hitting percentage, while Governors State totaled 26 kills and hit at a .071 clip.

After cruising to a two-set lead, SAU ran into some trouble in the third. GSU (4-13, 0-10 CCAC) rallied from an early four-point deficit to lead as late as 21-20. But the Bees bounced back to complete the sweep. Meredith Siebers put down a kill to knot the score at 21-21 and Riley Epperson followed with a solo block to give St. Ambrose a 22-21 lead. 

An Emily Pobanz kill extended the lead to 23-21. Governors State got a point back before a serving error gave St. Ambrose a match point at 24-22. An Epperson kill closed out the victory.

SAU got contributions across the board in the win.

Eight different Bees had multiple kills. Siebers led the way with 11 against just two hitting errors in her 19 chances. Mackenzie Grafton collected nine kills. Pobanz finished with six and Jill Kavalauskas added five. Epperson, Alexandria Horne and Meredith Umland each had three, and Payton Wendt ended with two.

Hannah Sondag led everyone with 23 assists and eight digs. Neenah Primas was credited with six assists.

Maicee Pierce registered four assists and seven digs. Grafton also had seven digs. Kavalauskas and Lexi Huntley each had six kills, and Epperson and Isabelle Todd had five apiece.

Umland had a team-leading four blocks. Sondag (two), Grafton, Kavalauskas, Epperson and Skyler Kuntzman had aces for the Bees.

St. Ambrose will play a pair of matches at the Missouri Baptist Classic this weekend. Friday, SAU will face host Missouri Baptist, and Saturday, the Bees will take on Cumberland.
