SAU keeps rolling with win at Roosevelt

St. Ambrose shook off a poor first set to rally for a 19-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-21 win at Roosevelt Tuesday night. The victory moved the Bees to 11-3 overall and kept them atop the CCAC with a 4-0 league mark.

SAU got off to a slow start and never fully recovered in the opening set. Roosevelt (0-12, 0-3 CCAC) won five of the first seven points and never trailed from there. The Lakers led by as many as seven points en route to the 1-0 lead.

Things finally came together for the Bees midway through the second. Trailing 17-13, a kill from Alexandria Horne and a block from Horne and Mackenzie Grafton came part of a four-point run that knotted the score at 17-17. The teams traded points with a block from Horne and Hannah Sondag tying the set at 20-20. Three straight Roosevelt hitting errors helped St. Ambrose open up a 23-20 lead, and Jill Kavalauskas followed with kills on two of the next three points to even the match at 1-1.

SAU opened up 3-0 leads in both the third and fourth sets and led comfortably throughout. Over the final two sets, the Bees recorded 29 kills and just 10 hitting errors, hitting at a .297 clip.
