Streak snapped in four-set loss at Judson

St. Ambrose saw its longest winning streak in nearly seven years come to an end in a 3-1 loss at Judson Tuesday night. The Bees' six-match winning streak was snapped in a 23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-18 setback.

Playing for the first time in a week, SAU came out strong, taking the first set thanks to back-to-back kills from Rachael Dion and Jill Kavalauskas that broke a 23-23 tie.

But that proved to be the highlight of the night.

St. Ambrose faced early deficits in dropping both the second and third sets to fall behind 2-1.

But the Bees had their opportunity in the fourth. Trailing 8-6, SAU used the serving of Dion to run off six straight points. Meredith Siebers had two kills and Kavalauskas had another in the run that put the Bees in front 12-8.

The lead slipped away just as quickly.

Judson (12-5, 4-3 CCAC) won nine of the next 11 points to regain a 17-14 lead. After a kill from Mackenzie Grafton and two more from Kavalauskas, SAU got within a point at 18-17. The Eagles ended any comeback hopes by winning the next six points before ultimately closing out the match two points later.

SAU hit just .058 as a team with 42 kills offset by 33 hitting errors. Kavalauskas was the lone Bee to reach double-digits in kills, finishing with 15. Dion put down nine while Siebers and Grafton each collected seven.

Amber Tomlin was credited with 34 assists and 12 digs. Maicee Pierce led the team with 24 digs. Grafton picked up 11. Meredith Umland was in on six of the team's seven blocks.

The Bees finished with 14 serving errors while totaling just a single ace.

St. Ambrose will host Lincoln College Thursday in just the team's third home match of the season.
