Rally runs winning streak to six

A five-point run midway through the fifth set sparked St. Ambrose to a 21-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-17, 15-13 win at Indiana Northwest Tuesday night.

The rally extended the Bees' winning streak to six matches and moved the team to 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the CCAC.

After winning the fourth set, the Bees found themselves trailing 9-7 in the decisive fifth. A RedHawk serving error cut the deficit to one and Rachael Dion put down a kill to knot the score at 9-9. Meredith Siebers followed with an ace to give SAU a lead they would not relinquish. An IU Northwest hitting error and another Dion kill capped the 5-0 run to give St. Ambrose a 12-9 lead.

The RedHawks (7-7, 2-4 CCAC) twice got within a single point, the last time to fight off a match point to make the score 14-13. But Mackenzie Grafton closed out the Bee win with her match-best 22nd kill of the night.

The comeback gave St. Ambrose its longest winning streak since the 2014 team also won six matches in a row.

Grafton was one of several Bees to have a big night.

Siebers finished with 12 kills and Jill Kavalauskas added nine. Dion narrowly missed double-digits, collecting nine kills against just one hitting error. Meredith Umland posted six kills to go along with a team-high four blocks.

Amber Tomlin was credited with 49 assists. Hannah Sondag had five.

Maicee Pierce led all players with 19 digs. Siebers picked up 15 and Tomlin finished with 13. Kavalauskas and Grafton were just short of double-doubles, registering nine and seven digs, respectively.

The Bees will look to run their winning streak to seven next Tuesday when they visit Judson.
