Kavalauskas, Siebers lead St. Ambrose to victory

Jill Kavalauskas continued her strong run and helped St. Ambrose earn a 25-18, 25-20, 21-25, 17-25, 15-13 win at Cardinal Stritch Monday night.

Averaging nearly 23 kills per match and hitting at a .367 clip over the team's last three matches, Kavalauskas upped those numbers in the five-set win. She finished with 26 kills and had just four errors to finish with a .431 attack percentage.

Meredith Siebers supported Kavalauskas with 21 kills. She had just five errors to register a .348 hititng percentage.

The pair combined for 47 of the team's 64 kills. And they came through when they were needed the most.

After Cardinal Stritch (10-6, 10-6 CCAC) rallied to force the fifth set by winning both the third and fourth, Kavalauskas and Siebers took over. Kavalauskas had six kills and Siebers had five in the final set.

With the Wolves leading 11-10, Siebers had a kill to knot the score at 11-11. Two points later, London Williams, who had SAU's only other kill in the set, had a big block to even the score at 12-12. The teams traded points and at 13-13, Siebers and Kavalauskas had back-to-back kills to close out the win.

Rachael Dion contributed seven kills to help St. Ambrose improve to 15-8 overall and 10-6 in conference play.

Williams had four kills and Payton Wendt added three.

Amber Tomlin led everyone with 54 assists. She also shared match-high honors with 16 digs.

Maicee Pierce (15) and Kavalauskas (12) also posted double-digit digs. Siebers had eight digs and Alexis Hayes was credited with seven.

Serina Cannon collected three of the Bees' six aces.

SAU will have a quick turnaround as the Bees host Indiana Northwest Tuesday night. The Senior Night match will begin at 7 p.m.
