SAU gets back on track with win at Saint Xavier

Just two days after dropping a tough five-setter at Governors State, and after losing the first set 25-15 Saturday, St. Ambrose pulled it together and rallied to defeat Saint Xavier 15-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-16.

The Bees withstood a Cougar team (10-8, 8-8 CCAC) which had a .444 hitting percentage in the opening set.

SAU got big matches from Jill Kavalauskas and Meredith Siebers.

Kavalauskas, who had 31 kills in the 3-2 loss at GSU Thursday, finished with 16 kills in Saturday's win. She had just five hitting errors. Siebers was equally as impressive, finishing with 13 kills and four errors.

Rachael Dion and Payton Wendt each had seven kills. Amber Tomlin had four kills along with her match-leading 30 assists. London Williams had two kills and Lauren Vorva was credited with one.

Maicee Pierce picked up 14 digs while adding six assists. Tomlin had nine digs and Megan Mitchell added six.

The victory moved St. Ambrose to 14-8 overall and 9-6 in the CCAC.

SAU will visit Cardinal Stritch Monday before returning home to host Indiana Northwest Tuesday.
