Bees get back on track with sweep of Jaguars

St. Ambrose snapped a three-match losing streak with a convincing 25-17, 25-17, 25-15 win over Governors State Monday night.

The victory moved the Bees to 8-5 overall and 3-3 in the CCAC.

The first set was the most competitive with SAU leading by a single point as late as 16-15. But a kill from London Williams and a Jaguar hitting error extended the lead to 18-15. Governors State (3-5, 2-3 CCAC) would win just two more points the rest of the set as the Bees closed it out with back-to-back Meredith Siebers kills and a Riley Epperson ace.

St. Ambrose wasted little time in taking control of the second. Kills from Epperson, Rachael Dion and Siebers; a block from Williams and Dion; and an ace from Serina Cannon helped build a quick 10-2 advantage.

GSU eventually pulled to within 18-14, but after a Jaguar serving error, Jessica Hemm got an ace and Epperson and Dion teamed for a block to push the margin to 21-14. The Bees wrapped up the set a few points later.

Leading just 13-12 in the third, a kill from Mickey Hayes sparked a run. A kill from Siebers and an ace from Dion added to the 4-0 spurt that pushed the lead to 17-12. Isabelle Todd added a late ace as SAU wrapped up the three-set win.

Siebers led all players with 12 kills. Epperson and Hayes each collected five kills while Dion added four.

Amber Tomlin had a match-high 21 assists and Hannah Sondag was credited with five.

Alexis Hayes (11) and Maicee Pierce (10) each reached double digits in digs.

The Bees return to action Wednesday with a conference match at Indiana South Bend.
