Sprinters, steeplers lead way at Grand View

Weather forced a change of plans for the Bees again this year.

Due to cold weather coming this weekend, Grand View rescheduled their NAIA Midwest Quad from Saturday to Thursday, and the Bees did well to make the adjustment and compete to the best of their ability.

Stunning performances came from the sprint group who, collectively, all had lifetime bests in the 200m dash. Leading the way was Mary Perez (SR/Davenport, Iowa) who finished runner-up in 26.02, while Anne Nolting (NA/Preston, Iowa) was third in 26.13 and Lauren Lamourt (SO/Davenport, Iowa)h was fourth in 26.17. Those three, along with Lani Hillard (FR/Muscatine, Iowa) took silver in the 4x100 as well in 49.01.

Lamourt had a great day, also winning a silver medal in the long jump and a bronze in the triple jump.

It was a clean sweep for the Bees in the 3,000m steeplechase as SAU finished first through fifth. Chloe Gunn (JR/Peoria, Ill.) led the charge with a winning time of 12:04.85, teammate Mallory Rettenmeier (JR/Aurora, Ill.) came in almost 20 seconds later and Jenny Dickes (SO/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was 13 seconds behind her. Those three then were joined by Keeley Knobloch (JR/Moline, Ill.) to take the silver in the 4x800 relay.

Knobloch also picked up a gold on the day, adding a win in the 1,500m run to go along with her relay silver. She beat the field thanks to a big kick on the last lap, running 4:58.68. Teammate Karyn Paisley (SR/Macomb, Ill.) took bronze in 5:10.51.

Maddy Youngers (JR/Eldridge, Iowa) continued her stellar hurdle campaign, taking second place and running 15.75 in the 100m hurdles. Also medaling in the hurdles was Abby Hammer (SR/Oswego, Ill.). The All-American middle distance runner won bronze in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 67.94.

The field events also netted the Bees a load of medals. Senior All-American Brandi Hosford (SR/Morrison, Ill.) finished second in the triple jump and third in the long jump, while Micky Hayes was third in the high jump. Alissa DeShane (FR/Albany, Ill.) continued her great freshman season, with a runner-up finish in the pole vault.

SAU will be back in action next Friday at the Augustana Women's Invite.
