DeShane breaks record, Lamourt wins twice as Bees open season

Mother Nature might be the Bees biggest opponent this year.

After having their first meet of the season cancelled the SAU women competed at Augustana's Viking Olympics where they took third in the 11-team field.

The Bees were led by the jumpers. Freshman Alissa DeShane (FR/Albany, Ill.) had a school record leap of 3.25 meters (10-8) in the pole vault while sophomore Lauren Lamourt (SO/Davenport, Iowa) won both the long jump and triple jump events.

DeShane broke Jaclyn Scavuzzo's record of 3.23m set in 2013. Her mark ranks her in the top 20 in the NAIA.

Lamourt, who was a national qualifier a year ago in the long jump and finished 13th at indoor nationals this year inthe triple jump, came close to qualifying in both events.

Her leap of 5.22m (17-1) was only 38cm from the qualifying mark in long jump, and her 10.30m leap was only 10cm away from qualifying her for the national meet.

The Bees had medal winning performances all over the track.

SAU won silver medals in the 4x400 relay (Abby Hammer (SR/Oswego, Ill.), Sarah Adams (SO/Davenport, Iowa), Charlette Flanders (SR/Ottumwa, Iowa), Corrie Reiley (JR/Prophetstown, Ill.)) and Maddy Youngers (JR/Eldridge, Iowa) in the triple jump.

Bronze medal performances came from Youngers in the 100m hurdles and the 4x100 relay (Lamourt, Abbie Fuller (SO/Dana, Ill.), Mary Perez (SR/Davenport, Iowa), Lani Hillard (FR/Muscatine, Iowa)).

Assuming the weather cooperates, the Bees will next compete at Benedictine University on April 7.
