Dave Gonzalez joined the St. Ambrose track & field teams in 2018-19. He coaches the men's and women's throwers.

Gonzalez helped bring a national champion to St. Ambrose, with Josh Mathis bringing home the gold in the discus throw at the 2021 NAIA Outdoor National Championships. This was the first national champion in the field events since SAU Hall of Famer Rob Firrell won the indoor shot put in 2003.

Gonzalez was named the 2022 USTFCCCA National Men's Assistant Coach of the Year for outdoor track & field. His Fighting Bee throwers accounted for 72 points in the 2022 CCAC Outdoor Championships en route to St. Ambrose's first-ever men's CCAC title.

Gonzalez coached Mick Saloninas and Annah Miller to All-American finishes at the 2022 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Saloninas repeated the feat in 2023, earning All-American honors in the shot put at the NAIA Outdoor Championships.

Before joining St. Ambrose, Gonzalez was an assistant coach at Augustana College. He helped build Augustana into one of the nation's premier NCAA Division III programs.

A 2003 graduate of Augustana, Gonzalez racked up four conference throwing titles and was a four-year letter winner. He earned a degree in psychology.
