Miller breaks school record as Bees compete in Des Moines

Annah Miller broke the school record in the discus and more national-qualifying standards were reached as St. Ambrose continued its season at the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa, Friday.

Along with setting a school record, Miller's throw of 47.03 meters hit the A standard and was the top throw in the CCAC this season. She placed fifth overall in the event. Miller also took eighth in the shot put with a mark of 13.55 meters.

Gabbi Butler met the B standard with a time of 57.15 seconds in the women's 400-meter dash. It is the second-best time in the conference this season and was good for fourth-place Friday. Butler was also 14th in the 200-meter dash in 26.46 seconds.

The SAU women posted several other strong performances.

Ryleigh Warden took fifth in the pole vault with a jump of 3.20 meters. She was also ninth in the javelin with a throw of 31.64 meters. Lexie Johnson earned an eighth-place finish in the long jump (5.27 meters) and placed 21st in the 200-meter dash (26.90). Alexis Andersen had a mark of 9.92 meters in the triple jump and Kate Surwillo had a jump of 2.90 meters to each finish 10th.

Kyleigh Foster (15th in the 800-meter run in 2:30.83) and Megan Jansett (17th in the 400-meter dash in 59.89) picked up top-20 showings. Paige Crippes was 22nd in the 100-yard dash in 13.40 seconds and 28th in the 200-meter dash in 28.23 seconds. Jadie Knecht took 24th in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.20. Rileigh Fortune (5:48.00), Jayne Eilderts (6:26.21) and Rylee McCrery (6:41.41) placed 31st, 33rd and 34th, respectively, in the 1500-meter run.

On the men's side, Will Reemtsma won the 400-meter hurdles in an A-standard time of 52.03 seconds. That is the top mark in the conference. Reemtsma was also part of the 4x100-meter relay team that met the B standard. Austin Kalar, Reemtsma, Nik Norton and Yemi Ward combined for a time of 41.50 seconds. The top time in the CCAC earned them third place. A second 4x100 team of Brandon Conners, Jeremiah Crawford, Donte Sibley and Andrew Olenek placed seventh in 43.81.

Mick Saloninas continued his strong spring by improving his A standard in the shot put. His effort of 16.78 meters was fourth Friday and is the best mark in the CCAC. Teammate Jonah Wilson reached the B standard with the second-best throw in the conference. He recorded a distance of 15.68 meters in the shot put to place eighth. Alec Seifert took 11th with a mark of 14.58 meters. Saloninas (10th with a throw of 46.83 meters) and Wilson (16th at 37.95 meters) also competed in the discus.

Joshua Mottet grabbed a third-place finish in the pole vault. He recorded a height of 4.50 meters. Justin Bowers was 10th in the event with a mark of 3.90 meters. Ward took seventh in the 100-meter dash in 11.25 seconds. Joe Vollmer was eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.66 meters. In the 1500-meter run, Chris Miserendino (4:16.80) was 28th, Nathan Boleyn (4:17.08) was 29th and Kevin Chaney (4:30.49) was 39th.

St. Ambrose will next compete in the Augustana Meet of Champions next Friday and Saturday.
