Reemtsma, Saloninas and Miller named CCAC Athletes of the Week

Three CCAC Athlete of the Week performances highlighted the Bees' effort at the SAU Spring Opener in Davenport, Iowa, Saturday. Will Reemtsma and Mick Saloninas were named Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, while Annah Miller earned Women's Field Athlete of the Week recognition.

Reemtsma and Saloninas both hit the A standard in the outdoor opener. Reemtsma won the 400-meter hurdles in 53.00 seconds to qualify for nationals. Saloninas hit the mark in winning both the shot put (16.11 meters) and discus (52.22 meters).

On the women's side, Miller reached the B standard twice, winning the shot put with a throw of 13.30 meters and taking first in the discus with a mark of 43.31 meters.

Gabbi Butler also won a pair of events for the Bee women. She took the 200-meter dash in 26.69 seconds and won the 400-meter dash in 1:00.15. Megan Jansett (1:01.48) and Athena Nelson (1:03.53) placed second and third, respectively, in the 400. Jadie Knecht was fifth. Jansett added a third-place effort in the 200, finishing in 27.36 seconds. Paige Crippes took fifth.

St. Ambrose had three other individual winners in the women's competition. Kate Surwillo won the pole vault with a mark of 3.36 meters. Tara Ryan was fourth. Lexie Johnson was first in the long jump with a distance of 5.48 meters. Lily Olsen, who took fourth in the long jump, won the triple jump with a mark of 10.45 meters. Alexis Andersen was fifth in the long jump.

Crippes and Johnson were second and third in the 100-meter dash. Crippes finished in 13.33 seconds and Johnson ended in 13.37 seconds. The Bees also got top-five performances from Kyleigh Foster (fourth in the 1500-meter run), Rileigh Fortune (fifth in the 1500), Olivia Sobieszczyk (fifth in the high jump) and Julianna Jones (fifth in the discus).

For the men, Saloninas led a strong Bee showing in the throws. Jonah Wilson (15.33 meters), Alec Seifert (14.82 meters), Kyle Uhl and Bryce Peacher finished rounded out the top five behind Saloninas in the shot put. And in the discus, Wilson (42.30 meters) was second, Peacher (42.02 meters) was third and Hunter Kasap took fourth. Kasap was also runner-up in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.77 meters. Kaden Swanger placed fourth. Simon Holland took second in the javelin with a throw of 42.03 meters.

Keion Lewis had a big day, winning the triple jump with a mark of 12.70 meters and finishing second in the long jump at 6.42 meters. Isaac Mojica was second in the high jump with an effort of 1.80 meters. Lewis placed fifth. Joshua Mottet's mark of 4.23 meters was good for third place in the pole vault. Justin Bowers ended fifth. Joe Vollmer took fifth in the triple jump.

The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Austin Kalar, Reemtsma, Nik Norton and Yemi Ward won in 41.94 seconds. The 4x400 relay team of Matt Acosta, Maxwell Stoos, Ryan Warrick and Norton placed third.

Chris Miserendino was third in the 1500-meter run in 4:21.05. Nathan Boleyn placed fourth. Kevin Chaney took fourth in the 800-meter run.

St. Ambrose will host its second outdoor meet of the spring Wednesday at the SAU Easter Weekend Meet.
