SAU sets records at NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships

St. Ambrose set three school records and crowned an All-American at the 2023 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D.

Nolan Rudd became the program's most-recent All-American. The senior set a lifetime PR and earned a spot on the podium with a school-record time of 8:30.34 in the men's 3000-meter run Saturday. That was good for eighth place, three spots higher than his 11th-place finish in prelims. It bettered his own school record of 8:33.99 he set in the prelims Friday.

Friday saw Gabbi Butler set a school record in the women's 400-meter dash. Her time of 56.64 seconds topped the previous mark of 57.37 seconds set in 2016. It also placed her ninth in the country.

Butler was also part of the school-record-setting 4x400-meter women's relay team. She teamed with Katie Lambrecht, Megan Jansett and Megan Becker for a time of 3:55.92 Thursday that broke the previous school record of 3:57.47 set in 2015. It was also good for 15th place.

The Bees had several others just miss podium finishes.

St. Ambrose had three men place inside the top 14 in the shot put Saturday. Jonah Wilson was 10th overall with a throw of 16.01 meters. Mick Saloninas placed 11th with a toss of 15.77 meters. Alec Seifert was 14th with a mark of 15.25 meters. Annah Miller also placed 14th in the shot put on the women's side. She had a best throw of 13.35 meters.

Will Reemtsma competed in a pair of prelims Friday. He ended 11th in the 400-meter dash in 48.39 seconds and took 36th in the 200-meter dash in 22.46 seconds. Reemtsma also was part of the men's distance medley relay team Thursday. Luke Benes, Reemtsma, Kale Cartee and Rudd finished 19th in 10:15.71. Also competing for the Bee men, Payton Woods was 30th in the weight throw with a distance of 15.90 meters and Yemi Ward's time of 6.97 seconds was good for 34th in the 60-meter dash.

For the women, Lambrecht took 14th in the pentathlon Thursday, earning 3,122 points. On Friday, Ryleigh Warden finished in a tie for 26th with a mark of 3.27 meters in the pole vault. Lexie Johnson also competed in the long jump for the Bees.
