Bees continue strong indoor season with Fighting Bee Invitational

In its fifth home meet of the indoor season, St. Ambrose posted another strong showing. Along with more national-qualifying marks, the SAU women won the 12-team Fighting Bee Invitational with 138 points while the Bee men took second with 127 points.

Ryleigh Warden set a school record in the pole vault to highlight the weekend performances. Her vault of 3.52 meters (11-6.5) broke Jaclyn Scavuzzo's previous record of 3.34 meters set in 2013. The mark also hit the A standard making Warden the first Bee to qualify for the women's pole vault in school history. Kate Surwillo (3.27 meters) took third in the pole vault and Tara Ryan (2.52 meters) tied for eighth.

Katie Lambrecht nearly broke a second school record. Her first-place total of 3151 in the women's pentathlon was the second-best in school history, just 7 points behind Rachel Luehrs' record 3158 points set in 2011. Lambrecht's total is currently eighth in the NAIA. 

Gabbi Butler hit the B standard in the 400-meter dash. Her time of 58.78 seconds was good for second place Saturday and her converted time of 58.01 places her fourth in the CCAC in the event. Athena Nelson took fifth place in 1:03.30.

Lexie Johnson won a pair of individual events. She took the 200-meter dash in a season-best 26.44 seconds. Paige Crippes was third in 27.06 seconds. Johnson also won the long jump with a leap of 5.49 meters (18-0.25). Alexis Andersen, who also placed fourth in the triple jump, was third in the long jump with a mark of 5.03 meters. Lily Olsen placed sixth and Nelson was seventh. Johnson and Crippes also placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 60-meter dash.

Megan Becker (1:45.10) and Kyleigh Foster (1:46.02) finished 1-2 in the 600-meter run. 

Annah Miller, the conference's top performer in the shot put, won the event with a throw of 13.32 meters (43-8.5). She also took fifth in the weight throw.

Allison Hein took fourth in the 3000-meter run in a time of 13:36.89. She finished right ahead of teammates Jayne Eilderts and Rylee McCrery. Eilderts, Foster, Loryn Heil and Anna Pierce teamed for fourth in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:33.61.

On the men's side, Nolan Rudd was one of five Bees to score in the 5000-meter run. His time of 14:52.62, converted to 14:43.16, hit the A standard and is currently the top time in the CCAC and 10th-best in the country. Will Dowda, Dayton Hauger, Ian Eller and Noah Maske also earned points in the event.

Will Reemtsma improved his A standard in the 400-meter dash with a winning time of 49.12 seconds. His converted time of 48.35 seconds is second in the conference. Reemtsma has also already qualified for nationals in the 200-meter dash and 600-meter run.

Payton Woods hit the B standard in the weight throw with a season-best and fourth-place mark of 16.62 meters (54-6.5).

Three Bees who have already hit qualifying marks took the top three spots in the shot put. Mick Saloninas won with a throw of 16.61 meters (54-6). Jonah Wilson was runner-up with a mark of 16.08 meters. Alec Seifert, who hit the B standard earlier this season, was third with a throw of 15.42 meters. Kyle Uhl placed seventh.

Joshua Mottet was runner-up in the pole vault with an effort of 4.32 meters (14-2). Nate Long was fourth, Keagan Anderson sixth and Isaac Mojica seventh. Mojica also placed sixth in the high jump.

Kale Cartee was third in the 800-meter run in a season-best time of 2:00.82. Chris Miserendino was fourth and Tommy Ashby sixth. Matt Acosta (fourth in 1:28.42) and Maxwell Stoos (eighth) scored in the 600-meter run. Austin Kalar (fourth in 7.06 seconds) and Yemi Ward (seventh) earned points in the 60-meter dash. Keion Lewis placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.73 meters (38-6) and Justin Bowers ended fifth in the heptathlon.

St. Ambrose will hit the road for the first time this season to compete in the Bearcat Invite Feb. 2-4 in Maryville, Mo.
